Don’t you just love it when you find a recipe that calls for whole grains? There’s nothing more exciting for me than searching the internet or my favorite cookbooks, only to find a traditional dish, made entirely with whole grains! Oh the joy, oh the excitement!

With all that love I contain for whole grains, you can imagine my jubilation when I came across today’s recipe. Not only did it give me a chance to make one of my all-time favorite meals, pizza, it also called for a whole grain we all have grown to love lately. Quinoa! This Ancient Grain is packed full of fiber, calcium, and tons of vitamins and minerals. It also gives a ton of flavor and texture to any meal you make.

But with all those vitamins, minerals, taste, and texture, there was one thing I never realized, until today, that quinoa could do. Quinoa makes an amazing pizza crust! Let me tell you, one bite and you’ll never be able to go back to traditional crust again! Grab your favorite toppings, it’s time to make Quinoa Pizza Crust!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Honeyville Organic Quinoa
3 tsp Olive Oil, divided
1 cup Water
2 Eggs
1 1/2 tsp Garlic Salt
1/2 tsp Oregano
1/2 tsp Basil
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Mozzarella Cheese

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

toasted-quinoa

Rinse your Quinoa thoroughly with a strainer, then place in a sauce pan with 1 tsp Olive Oil. Bake on medium heat just until the quinoa begins to toast. Add water, cover, and bring to a boil, then turn down heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Once liquid is completely dissolved, take off heat and place quinoa in a large bowl to cool.

egg-mixture

In a separate bowl, combine eggs, garlic salt, oregano, basil, and baking powder, and whisk together.

Re-hydrate mozzarella cheese by soaking in water until soft, then draining excess liquid. Add cheese to quinoa once re-hydrated.

Add egg mixture to quinoa and mix until a thick batter forms.

dough-on-pan

On your USA Pan Cookie Sheet, lined with parchment paper, pour quinoa and, using your hands, shape quinoa into a pizza crust circular shape.

Place in 425 degree oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until edges are brown.

Remove and allow to cool. At this point you can add your toppings, place back in the oven for 5 minutes, and bake! We made our pizza using our versatile Tomato Powder, our Freeze Dried Sausage, or Freeze Dried Organic Pineapple, and of course our Freeze Dried Mozzarella Cheese!

This crust is amazingly crisp, tasty, and full of whole grain goodness. It holds together strong, just like a traditional pizza crust, and can take any topping you place on top of it. Make pizza, breadsticks, or even a calzone. This crust can take it all and still give you all the goodness of a whole grain recipe.
