What are some of the best food combinations you can think of? A few that come to my mind are peanut butter and jelly, meat and potatoes, peas and carrots, and, of course, macaroni and cheese!

In my home, this delightful dish is an absolute almost every night. My little girl would probably gobble down a bowl of mac & cheese every meal if she could! And why not? That creamy, warm cheese sauce, drizzled a top freshly cooked pasta. What’s not to love about it?

Now, imagine adding a key fall-time flavor to this family favorite meal. That’s right, I’m talking about pumpkin! I know, I know, upon first thought these two combinations don’t necessarily sound like the most exciting flavor trip for your palate. But believe it or not, this autumn twist-on-tradition is actually really, REALLY good! We made up a match here at the Honeyville offices and found that not only were people asking for seconds, but begging me to give up the recipe before today’s official post. It’s that good! But don’t take our word for it, it’s time to try it for yourself. Using our awesome Freeze Dried Cheddar and our amazing Elbow Macaroni we’ve created the perfect fall-time lunch and dinner for all your little ghouls and goblins. Get ready, it’s time for Pumpkin Mac & Cheese!

2 cups Honeyville Elbow Macaroni
1/4 cup Butter
1/4 cup Honeyville All Purpose Flour
2 cups Milk
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1 tsp Dijon Mustard
1 cup Pumpkin Puree
2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Cheddar Cheese

First, make your macaroni.


To do so, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Pour in macaroni and cook until pasta is tender.


In a sauce pan, melt butter over low heat. Add flour an stir for 1 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in milk.

Place back on heat and bring to a simmer. Stir until mixture has thickened.


Add salt, pepper, nutmeg, mustard, and pumpkin puree, and stir until completely combined.


Add cheese and stir until cheese is melted.


Once macaroni is completely cooked and drained, add to cheese and mix together until completely coated. Grab a spoon and dish up!
