Are you a citrus connoisseur? While many are fighting off blizzards, snow drifts, and chilly temperatures, one of the things we love most about our Southern California location in January and February can be summed up in two words: Orange season! That’s right, these chilly months in most of the country are actually the first few months of the orange harvest and, frankly, we love it!
With orange season in full swing, we here at the Honeyville blog tried to think of a way we could bring that same excitement and adventure of walking the sweet-smelling orange groves of SoCal to all of you. That’s why we’ve come up with a sweet, delicious recipe that’s packed full of all the flavor and aroma we love about oranges. Light, fluffy, moist, and oh so good, this Orange Cream Bread is exactly what you need to shake off the shivers of January. Grab a spoon and your favorite apron, it’s time to make some Orange Cream Bread!
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup Vegetable Oil
3 Eggs
1 1/4 cup Milk
2 1/4 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Orange Juice
3 tsp Citrus Blossom Extract (orange extract will do as well)
1 1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
Cream Cheese Filling:
8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
1/3 cup Sugar
2 Eggs
Orange Glaze:
1/4 cup Butter
2 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
1 tsp Citrus Blossom Extract
1/2 cup Milk
Yields: 3 loaves
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Batter
In a large bowl, beat together oil, eggs, milk, sugar, orange juice, and citrus blossom extract until smooth. Add flour, salt, and baking powder and mix until a smooth batter forms.
Cream-Cheese-Filling
In a separate bowl beat together cream cheese, sugar, eggs, and flour until smooth.
Batter-in-pan
Grease 3 of your USA Pan Small Loaf Pans and pour about 1/3 batter into each pan. Next, add 1/3 cream cheese filling, then swirl filling with batter using a fork or knife. Finally, pour remaining batter on top.
Baked-Bread-in-Pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
As loaves are cooling, make your glaze by beating butter, powdered sugar, citrus blossom extract and milk until a smooth glaze forms. Drizzle on top of loaf, then slice and serve.
