Winter is almost here, and that can mean only one thing…cookies! Yes, it’s that time of year again when we pull out the flour, eggs, and cookie sheets to bake and create the most delicious, most decadent cookies the season can call for.

I can still smell the sweet aroma of cookies, brownies, and fudge coming from my childhood kitchen as my mom prepared for for the Holiday season. Oh, the smell, oh the taste! That’s really what this time of year is all about, right?

With cookies on the mind, I knew that today’s recipe would have to be a special one. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found this gem of a recipe. Not only does this recipe create a delicious, aroma-filled cookie that your taste buds will absolutely melt for, these cookies are also the coolest looking things you’ll ever see! Best of all, they’re super simple to make! Grab some flour, it’s time to bake up some Nutmeg Chocolate Palmiers Cookies!

Ingredients (Cookie):
1/2 cup Butter, softened
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Salt
1 Egg
3 Tbsp Milk
1/2 tsp Vanilla
2 1/2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour

8 oz Cream Cheese
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
1/4 cup Honeyville Baker’s Cocoa
2 Tbsp Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Nutmeg

Yields: 14-18 cookies

First, start your dough.

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter on medium speed. Add sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Beat until combined. Add egg, milk, and vanilla and mix until combined. Slowly add flour and continue to beat until a soft cookie dough forms. Cover the dough and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Next, make your filling. To do so, add cream cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, flour, vanilla, and nutmeg to a medium bowl and beat together until a creamy, frosting-like texture forms.

Remove dough from refrigerator and roll out on a floured surface in a rectangle shape.

Spread filling on top of dough, leaving 1/2 inch open on each side.

Taking one side of the dough, roll it up to about the half-way point of the cookie dough.

Repeat the process for the other side of the dough, so that both sides are rolled up.

Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for 4-6 hours.

Before removing cooking dough, preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Once cookie dough has chilled, remove, unwrap, and slice your cookies, about 1/4 inch apart.

Using your USA Pan Cookie sheet, line with parchment paper and place cookies on cookie sheet.

Bake in oven at 375 degrees for for 10 minutes, or until sides of cookie are light brown.

Remove and allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
