What are some of your favorite traditional meals, dishes, or recipes? You know, the ones that follow your Family Tree like a line on a paper. That favorite dish, dessert, or treat that has been passed down from generation to generation, connecting you back to your roots.

For many, that dish is a bread recipe. Whether light and fluffy, moist and flavorful, or aromatic and amazing, we all seem to have a bread recipe stashed away in the family cookbook that dates back to who knows when! But what if you could find a new recipe that still ties you to your roots? What if you could find that “forgotten” dish that brings you back to your family origins?
Today’s post is that recipe. Delicious, simple, and with a tradition spanning all the way back to the “old country,” Irish Soda Bread takes us back to our family roots with each bite and taste. It’s easy to make, full of tons of flavor and texture, and will take you back to merry old Ireland in minutes. Grab your apron, it’s time to back up some Irish Soda Bread!
Ingredients:
1 tsp Salt
5 Tbsp Honeyville Buttermilk Powder + 2 cups of warm Water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Add buttermilk powder and water and mix together by hand until a soft dough begins to form.

Kneaded-Dough

Pour dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead for 10-12 minutes.

Place dough in a greased round 8″ cake pan, and push down until it resembles a large disk. The dough should reach the edge of the pan. Using a sharp knife, cut slices in the top of the bread.

Place another round pan on top, upside down, and bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes, then remove pan on top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Irish-Soda-Bread

This bread is full of so much flavor and texture, you’ll be transformed back to old Ireland in minutes. The taste is very similar to a southern-style biscuit, with a crisp outside, yet light and fluffy inside that you can’t believe. Serve with butter or drizzle with honey for added flavor and sweetness.
