Don’t you just love waffles? No matter what time of year, or what the occasion may be, there’s nothing better than waking up one early morning to the smell of homemade waffles filling the air.

For me, waffles are the perfect breakfast dish, especially during the Holiday season. Thick, crisp, and with the perfect buttermilk flavor, you simply can’t beat this titan of the morning time.

So how do you improve on this amazing dish? How do you make this traditional meal even better? How about adding some Hot Cocoa? No, not in a mug, in your batter. That’s right, why not bake some Hot Cocoa right into your waffles! Sounds crazy? Trust me, it’s a taste and texture you won’t be able to pass up! Grab your waffle iron, it’s time to bake up some Hot Cocoa Waffles!

1 1/2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1/2 cup Honeyville Marshmallow Motherlode Hot Cocoa
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Himalayan Salt
3 1/2 Tbsp Honeyville Buttermilk Powder + 1 1/2 cups Water
6 Tbsp Butter, melted
2 Eggs

Yields: 5-6 waffles

In a large bowl, mix together flour, hot cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, and whisk together.

Next, add buttermilk powder, water, butter, and eggs, and beat with an electric hand mixer until a thick batter forms.

Pour batter into your waffle iron and bake until waffle is crisp.

Crisp, flavorful, and with a delicious cocoa taste, these waffles are the perfect pick-me-up for any early morning adventure. The Hot Cocoa gives an amazing, but not overpowering flavor, while the buttermilk smooths everything out and gives you that traditional waffle flavor.

Yes, we all love waffles, and these hot cocoa waffles are no exception!
