What do Eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwiches, toast, and personal pizza’s have in common? Besides tasting amazing, every one of these meals can be made with an English Muffin. How many of us have grabbed a toasted English Muffin with a slab of butter smeared on it as we rushed out the door for work or school? How many of us have spread a little tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni on the top of an English Muffin for a sweet after-school snack?
Can you think of any type of bread that is as versatile and as delicious as English Muffins? They’re the perfect addition to any meal, at any time of the season! Now, imagine a simple, easy recipe for making your own English Muffins right at home. How awesome would homemade English Muffins be? Now you can have just that with our Homemade English Muffins. Trust me, once you try these, you’ll never buy English Muffins from the grocery store again!
3/4 cup Milk
1 Tbsp Salt
1/2 cup Water
Activate your yeast by combining warm Water, Yeast, and Sugar in a small mixing bowl.
You want your water to be about 100 degrees. Once the yeast is activated, it will start to foam up. Let activate for 5-7 minutes.
While yeast is activating, combine Flour and Salt in a large mixing bowl and place in a preheated oven of 250 degrees for 5 minutes. Heating up the dry ingredients helps create a smoother dough.
Warm Milk to about 100 degrees. Combine dry ingredients, yeast, and milk and mix until dough is soft and smooth. Place dough on a floured counter top and knead for about 3 minutes, or until dough is smooth and soft.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
After 1 hour, remove dough, punch down, and knead for another 3 minutes. Place dough back in the greased bowl, cover, and let rise an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Remove dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface.
Once dough is rolled out, use the lid of a mason jar or top of a cup and cut out your English Muffins.
On a baking tray, place a sheet of parchment paper and sprinkle Yellow Cornmeal on paper. Place each muffin on the cornmeal. Make sure to coat both sides of each muffin with cornmeal. Cover and let raise for an additional 30 minutes.
Lightly oil an electric skillet, griddle, or cast-iron skillet and heat over low heat (about 300 degrees on an electric skillet). Place muffins on skillet and let cook until bottoms are golden brown.
This should take anywhere from 15-20 minutes. Flip and repeat for the top of the muffins.
When both sides are a golden brown, remove and serve.
These muffins are full of flavor and taste and go great with butter, jam, or anything else you can put on them. Not only do they cook up to the perfect consistency and crunch for an English Muffin, they also fill your whole kitchen with the sweet aroma of bread and toast! Be warned, you won’t be able to eat just one of these!
