Don’t you just love creative cookies? There’s something about the Holiday season that always brings out the fun, festive, unique cookie recipes that brighten our days and make baking even that much more fun!

Today is one of those recipes! Why, you ask? Just look at these cookies! Upon first glance, you think you’re simply looking at some homemade pretzels. Then you take a bite and BANG, you’re transformed into a sugar cookie bliss! Pretzels that taste like cookies! Cookies that look like pretzels! There really isn’t anything cooler for the Holiday season! So, enough talk, let’s start making some!

Ingredients:
6 Tbsp Butter, softened
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
3 Egg Yolks
2 tsp Vanilla Bean Paste
1/2 cup Milk
2 1/2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 Tbsp Water

Yields: 24 pretzel cookies

Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar, baking powder, and salt together until creamy. Add egg yolks, vanilla bean paste, and milk and continue beating.

Cookie-Dough

Gradually add flour and continue beating until a thick sugar cookie dough forms. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Once chilled, remove dough and preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Dough-Ball

Pinch off one ping pong size dough ball.

Dough-Rope

Roll out into a 8-9 inch long rope.

U-Shape

Shape rope into a “U” shape.

Crossed

Cross one end of the rope over the other.

Pretzel

Moisten ends with water and press them into the bottom of the “U” shape. You now have a pretzel!

Cookies-on-Sheet

Repeat this process for all cookies, then place on your USA Pan Cookie Sheet, lined with parchment paper.

Brushed-With-Egg-Wash

Whisk egg and water together for an egg wash and lightly coat tops of pretzel cookies. Sprinkle some course decorating sugar on top for design.

Baked-Cookie

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies are just turning golden on the sides. Remove, allow to cool, then serve!
