Now I know many of you are asking yourselves “What’s a Hearth Pan?” or “Why would I need a Hearth Pan?” Trust us, this is one pan you’ll definitely want in your bread baking arsenal.

For starters, the Hearth Pan really goes back to the rustic bread baking days, when bread was baked right on the hearth of the family fireplace. Large, deep, and with rounded sides, this pan bakes up delicious, rustic, artisan-looking loaves that are sure to be a hit in your home, as well as look just absolutely amazing.

Don’t believe me? Still unsure? Check out this simple yet amazing recipe we baked up using our all new hearth pan. Warm, delicious, and with the perfect look, this bread loaf is sure to be a hit in your home. Grab your Danish Dough Whisk, it’s time to make homemade Hearth Wheat Bread!

1 cup Honeyville Hard White Wheat, milled (about 1 1/2 cups wheat flour)
5 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Bread Flour
1 Tbsp Salt
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp SAF Yeast
2 1/2 cups Warm Water

Mill your wheat using your Nutrimill Grain Mill or Komo Classic Mill. 1 cup of wheat should give you a little over 1 1/2 cups of milled flour.

Next, in a large mixing bowl, combine milled wheat flour, alta artisan flour, salt, sugar, and yeast, and whisk together until completely combined.

Pour in warm water and, using your Danish Dough Whisk, whisk ingredients together until a sticky dough forms.

Turn dough out onto a floured hard surface.

Knead for 5-10 minutes, adding a little flour at a time, until dough is smooth. Place in a large, greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.

Once dough has doubled in size, punch down and remove from bowl.

Shape into a large loaf, then place in your greased USA Pan Hearth Bread Pan.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Let rise for 45 minutes, then slice the top of the loaf 3 times and spray with water.

Place in 400 degree oven, knock temperature down to 375 degrees, and bake for 40 minutes.

Remove from oven and pan, and let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

This bread not only bakes up beautifully with the perfect shape and appearance, it also tastes absolutely amazing! The pan bakes the outside to perfection, giving you the perfect crisp crust to go along with your soft, fluffy middle. Slice up and spread some butter and jam on top and enjoy a bread that will tickle your taste buds with absolute delight.

Yes, we love baking bread at Honeyville, especially when that bread is baked in our all new Hearth Bread Pan.
