For the past few weeks our Food Storage Friday posts have been focused specifically on the benefits of having Honeyville Freeze Dried Chicken, Beef, and Turkey in your own food storage pantry’s. We’ve discussed the many health benefits that come from including meat in a balanced diet. We’ve talked about shelf life, serving amounts, and storing enough for ourselves and our family. But today, I thought we’d take a different approach and focus on the main reason most of us should store Honeyville Freeze Dried Meats–Taste!
Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage Crumbles are packed with a flavor and taste that simply can’t be beat. They have all the benefits that can be found in all the other Honeyville Freeze Dried Meats. They’re full of protein, iron and zinc, and hold an impressive shelf life of 10 to 15 years sealed in a #10 can. But the one word most associated with our Sausage is definitely “taste.” It’s just full of flavor that you can taste right out of the can! And since our sausage is pre-cooked before it is freeze dried, eating out of the can isn’t a problem at all.
Versatile is another way to describe Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage. While our sausage goes perfect in any breakfast casserole, this product isn’t just for morning time meals. Whether added to a freshly baked Pizza, stuffed into delicious Wontons, or even used to make some amazing Sticky Buns, our sausage can add flavor and taste to about anything! With so many options, why wouldn’t you have this in your food storage pantry?
Still not convinced? Check out this delicious, and super quick, Sausage Ziti we made. It only took 6 minutes to cook in our Fagor 3 in 1 Electric Cooker. Enjoy!
2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage
1 15 oz jar Alfredo Sauce
1 15 oz jar Marinara Sauce
1 15 oz Jar Roasted Red Peppers (Drained)
1 can Black Olives (Drained)
1 1/2 cups Water
1/2 Honeyville Millet
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Chef Tess Romantic Italian Seasoning
1 tsp Rosemary
1 tsp Oregano
1 lb Ziti Pasta
1 1/2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Mozzarella Cheese
Combine all ingredients, except the Mozzarella Cheese, into your Fagor Electric Cooker.
There is no particular order in how you combine, but I typically like to go – oil, water, sauces, sausage, peppers, pasta, olives, millet, seasoning.
Once ingredients are in, place lid on cooker and press the “High” button under “Pressure Cooker” on the keypad until the number 6 (6 minutes cooking time) shows on the screen. Once it does, press Start.
While meal is cooking, re-hydrate your Mozzarella Cheese in a smaller bowl. Drain, and set aside.
Once meal is done, release the pressure by turning the steam valve from “Pressure” to “Steam.” Once all the steam has left the cooker, twist the lid off and stir the meal a few times with a big spoon.
Sprinkle the cheese on top, place the lid back on, and let sit for an additional 1-2 minutes, or just long enough to melt the cheese.
Once cheese is melted, scoop out and serve!
This meal cooks up super delicious and full of flavor. The pressure cooker seals in all the different flavors, while cooking you an amazing dinner, literally in just minutes! The millet gives it a whole grain crunch that can’t be beat. This is a meal the whole family will want again and again!
Now that you’ve seen what our sausage can do, isn’t it about time you pick up a can or two, and a Fagor Electric Cooker, for yourself?
