One of the greatest tools that you can have when it comes to food storage is knowledge and adaptability. There is always something new about food storage that we can all learn. That’s one of the things that makes building up our food storage so exciting. Whether it’s learning how to build rotating shelves, discovering a new Meals in a Jar recipe, or even finding a way to increase shelf space in a small pantry, there are constantly new and exciting ideas popping up.
What keeps many of us from discovering these new ideas though is knowing where to look. If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent a few hours sifting through Google, Pinterest, Twitter, and various blogs, looking for new ideas that you can easily incorporate into your food storage and emergency preparedness needs. While this can be a fun, it can also be very time consuming. So for today’s Food Storage Friday post, I thought I’d take you through some of the exciting and educational ideas that I’ve been able to find. Together, maybe we can find some new and exciting ideas for our own food storage pantry’s.
Making Your Own Can Dispenser
I stumbled across the blog ProvidentLiving.org and found this great idea for building your own can dispenser. To say that I was impressed was an understatement. Not only is this shelving unit one of the cleanest and simplest designs I have seen, it is also extremely convenient This dispenser would be perfect for those of us trying to maximize our food storage abilities in a smaller amount of space. Think about it, this could easily slide under the bed, lean up against a closet wall, or hidden just behind the entertainment center. Even better, you can request the plans from this website, or have them build one for you! Just make sure you ask for one that can fit your Honeyville #10 cans! Breath Mint Tin Survival Kit
Who would think that a simple breath mint can could transform into an impressive Homemade Survival Kit.This awesome, homemade survival tool that can fit in any glove box back pack, or even your front pocket! And how fun would this be to make for a Family Night activity. Though I don’t recommend this taking the place of your 72-Hour kit, how great would this be to have in your kids backpacks when then go to school or even just stashed in the family car. And talk about convenience!
Uses for Empty #10 Cans
You may remember our previous post on how to use a #10 can to make an Emergency Stove. That’s not all you can do with them! Food Storage and Survival has come up with a few more ideas on how to use those empty Honeyville cans. Have you tried using them in the bathroom, laundry room, or garage for other storage needs?
