Who doesn’t love chili? Warm and hearty, packed full of texture and taste, there’s something about chili that brings back memories of cold winter days, family get-togethers, and a friendly game of backyard football.
Perhaps one of the things we love most about chili is that everyone seems to have their own amazing recipe for it. Whether it’s grandpa’s famous 5 alarm chili, our aunt Rosie’s super healthy, chicken quinoa chili, we all have had recipes we love and recipes we simply can’t live without!
Today’s recipe is exactly that! This recipe is one of my wife’s family traditions, with a Honeyville twist added by me! Made entirely with products you can find in your food storage pantry, and resting atop your favorite corn chips, this meal combines all the classic flavors we love from chili, but cuts the cook time down to just 15 minutes! Now you know you can’t get better than that! So grab the old pigskin, gather the family, and let’s have our own Food Storage Chili Cook-off!
2 tsp Olive Oil
1 clove Garlic, minced
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Ground Beef
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Onion
2 cups Honeyville Quick Cook Red Beans
1/2 cup Honeyville Tomato Powder
1/2 tsp Cumin
1 Tbsp Chili Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
6-7 cups Water
First, pick out your favorite chili pot.
Once ready, add oil and garlic to bottom of pot.
Drop in beef, sausage, onion, and quick cook red beans
Add tomato powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Add 6-7 cups water, place on stove top, and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
Once chili is done, remove from heat.
In a large bowl, add your corn chips.
Pour chili over top of corn chips.
Sprinkle on some freeze dried cheddar cheese, line with more corn chips, and add a dollop of sour cream.
This bowl is the perfect meal to warm you up on these cold winter days. The chili bakes up super delicious, and the addition of the corn chips and sour cream give it a taste no family member will be able to turn down. We fight to get my daughter to eat more protein-filled meals, but she simply devours this meal every time we make it. It’s the perfect way to sneak a little protein into your kids diets!
What better way to practice safe food storage rotation than to make some chili! Don’t let the season pass without baking up a delicious bowl of this easy-to-bake meal!
