With the release of The Gourmet Food Storage Handbook by our own Chef Tess just around the corner, we decided to let you, our fans, choose which recipe from the cookbook you’d like to get a first look at! After a week of voting on our Facebook page, you decided that the recipe you wanted us to release first was the Dallas Style Chicken Noodle Soup in a Jar.
The great thing about this recipe is not only the fact that Chicken Noodle Soup goes hand-in-hand with the winter weather, but the great story associated with this tasty recipe. Here is an excerpt from the cookbook from Chef Tess describing the great story behind the coming together of this particular recipe:
“This meal was a request from a friend named Dallas at the Honeyville retail store in Arizona. It has nothing to do with anything actually in Dallas, Texas. Sorry, Texas. As for Dallas, she loves chicken noodle soup but, as she put it, ‘without all the vegetables and big herbs and stuff in there.’ I love her. A great reminder that though I may be creating some remarkable gourmet jar meals that span international cuisine, there’s also a need for some basic meals that every family in the good ol’ United States of America will eat.”
Now that you know the background of how it came about, enjoy this delicious recipe, chosen by you, our great Honeyville Fans!
Chef Tess’ Dallas Style Chicken Noodle Soup in a Jar
Ingredients: (In a pint-size jar, combine the following)
1 1/2 cup broken linguine or fettuccine noodles
1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. chicken bouillon (no MSG and low sodium is best)
1 tsp. garlic granules or powder
1/4 tsp. dry thyme
1/4 tsp. Chef Tess All Purpose Seasoning Mix
1/8 tsp. turmeric (for color and flavor)
Top the jar with one oxygen absorber and seal jar tightly. This meal is good on the shelf in a cool, dry place for up to 10 years.
Remove oxygen absorber and discard. Combine contents of the jar with 5 cups boiling water. Simmer 12-15 minutes until noodles and chicken are tender. Serve hot.
