Coconut Oil. Ask anyone in the paleo or gluten-free world and they’ll tell you all about the versatility and taste of this amazing product. Whether frying up some delicious chicken, popping up fresh popcorn, or baking a decadent Almond Flour Cake, coconut oil gives an added level of flavor, without a lot of fat, to any recipe.

But did you know that while it excels in taste and use, coconut oil is also extremely healthy for you? Particularly when it comes to the health care of your mouth! Not only does coconut oil facilitate absorption of calcium in the body (an essential element for strong, healthy teeth), it also stops tooth decay. That’s right, stops it.

So the question is, how do we incorporate coconut oil into our everyday tooth care? The answer? Toothpaste. We’ve created a simple, easy-to-make recipe for creating your own coconut oil toothpaste. Best of all, this toothpaste not only makes your teeth healthy and strong, it leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean! Grab a jelly jar and your best toothbrush, it’s time for Coconut Oil Toothpaste!

1 cup Coconut Oil
1/2 cup Baking Soda
1 Tbsp Peppermint Oil or Extract

First, prepare your coconut oil.

In the microwave or over the stove top, melt down your coconut oil until it’s in liquid form. Add baking soda and peppermint oil or extract, and stir together until fully combined.

While still in liquid form, pour into a jelly jar, then place the lid on top. As the oil cools, it will solidify, but if you wish to speed up the process, simply place it in the refrigerator for one hour.

When it’s time to brush, simply place some on your toothbrush and scrub!

Prepare your mouth for a freshness explosion. The coconut oil gets to work immediately in your mouth, rinsing and pulling away any plaque or food build up, while the baking soda sends a platoon of scrubbing bubbles in your mouth. The peppermint gives an added level of flavor, giving your mouth that fresh, clean feel after every scrub.

It’s time your mouth enjoyed the health benefits of coconut oil, and this is just the toothpaste to do it!
