Bread. Barbecue. For ages these two dishes have been used over and over again to create mouth-watering meals. Whether it’s brisket served between two slices of Texas toast, pulled pork atop a sliced sandwich roll, or even smoked linked sausage saddled up next to a buttered biscuit, barbecue and bread have always been inseparable on the table.

But what if they became inseparable as a meal? What if these two likely companions became one? What if you could make a bread with all the delicious flavors of barbecue baked right in? Guess what? You can!

Using our favorite barbecue sauce and baking the whole thing with our USA Pan Italian Loaf Pan, we’ve created a mouth watering, tongue smackin’ bread recipe that infuses all the flavors of your favorite barbecue dish into every slice. Get ready, it’s time to bake up some Barbecue Baguettes!

Ingredients:
3 cups Hot Water
1 cup Barbecue Sauce
3/4 cup Honey
4 Garlic Cloves, diced
1 Tbsp Red Pepper Flakes
1 Tbsp Salt
1 cup Honeyville Hard White Wheat, milled (about 2 cups flour)
1/2 cup Honeyville Whole Grain Rye, milled (about 1 cup flour)
1/2 cup Honeyville Pearled Barley, milled (about 1 cup flour)
3 Tbsp SAF Yeast
5-6 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Bread Flour

Yields: 4 baguettes

Directions:
First, mill your whole grains.

Using your Komo Classic Mill or Nutrimill Electric Grain Mill, mill your hard white wheat, rye, and barley. This should give you a little more than 4 cups of whole grain flour.

In your BOSCH Universal Mixer, add the following ingredients in this order: water, barbecue sauce, honey, diced garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, milled whole grain flour, and yeast. Turn mixer to #2 setting and, while ingredients are mixing, add alta artisan flour 1 cup at a time until dough begins to pull away from the sides. Knead in machine for 3-4 minutes.

Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 40 minutes.

Punch down and remove dough once it has doubled in size.

Divide dough into 4 pieces.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Taking each piece, roll it out into a long baguette form, then place on your USA Pan Italian Loaf Pan. Let dough rest for 10-15 minutes, then slice the tops with a sharp knife and spray with water.

Place in oven and bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. Knock temperature down to 350 and bake for an additional 15 minutes before removing. Allow bread to cool on wire rack before slicing and serving.
