Who’s ready for Fall? I don’t know if it’s the start of Football, the Labor Day Holiday, or just the fact that I’m sick of the 100 degree weather, but for some reason, I always get excited for Fall in early September.

I know that we typically associate October and early November with everything wonderful and joyous about Fall, but when you think about it, September is just as much a part of Fall as they are. Why you ask? Because September is the month for Apples! Mid to late September is typically when the first Apples of the year begin to fall from the trees and the perfect time to enjoy all those delicious apple treats! One of those favored treats of mine is Apple Braided Bread. Thanks to Honeyville Freeze Dried Apples, you don’t have to spend all day in the orchard picking apples. You can enjoy this treat anytime of the year! This bread is the exact recipe you’ve been waiting for to jump-start your Fall obsession! One bite, and you’ll be grabbing a scarf and that favorite turtle-neck sweater for sure!

Ingredients:
3 cups Honeyville Gourmet Scone Mix
1 cup Water
2 1/2 tsp SAF Yeast
2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Apples
3/4 cup Brown Sugar
1/4 cup Honeyville All Purpose Flour
3/4 tsp Chef Tess Wise Woman of the East Spice

Topping:
1/4 cup Butter
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp Chef Tess Wise Woman of the East Spice

Directions:
Begin by making your scone mix. In a large bowl, combine water and yeast and let activate for 5-8 minutes. Once yeast is activated, add scone mix and mix until soft dough begins to form. Knead 5-10 times, then place in a large mixing bowl, cover, and let sit for 20 minutes.

While dough is resting, you can start making your filling. First, re-hydrate your apples by soaking them in a large bowl with water.

In a separate bowl, add brown sugar, flour, and chef tess spice. Mix together.

Drain apples, place in bowl with dry ingredients and mix together until apples are full coated.

At this point, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Remove dough from bowl and roll out on a lightly floured surface.

Using a pizza slicer or dough cutter, slice diagonal lines down the side of the dough, making little arms within the dough. You’ll want the same amount of arms on each side.

Pour your apple filling in the center of the dough, then begin to fold over each arm so that it is crossing over the other arm.

Continue doing this until you have completely braided your bread.

Now you can add your topping. Melt butter in a large bowl, then brush on top of the bread.

Combine sugar and chef tess spice in a small bowl and mix together. Using a spoon, sprinkle mix on top of the braided bread.

Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes, or until top is golden brown.

Remove, slice up, and serve!

This bread has everything you’re looking for in a delicious fall recipe! The sweet smell of baking bread, apples, and cinnamon will fill your home, while the taste will leave you longing for cooler weather, brown and orange leaves, and pumpkins on the porch. You’ll be running to the basement to pull out all your Fall decorations after one bite!

We can’t force Fall to come. But maybe, with our Apple Braided Bread, we can get an early taste of it!
