What do you love most about eating out? Is it trying out new restaurants? Is it spending time with friends or a loved one? Is it experimenting new dishes and flavors? Or, if you’re like me, the best part about eating out is the bread!
I love trying new breads at restaurants. I think I enjoy that more than the actual meal! Whether it’s a delicious loaf or warm rolls with melted butter, there’s nothing more exciting than finding a new restaurant that serves bread!
So imagine my joy when I found a delicious recipe for a loaf of bread you’ve seen at your favorite restaurant. Made with milled hard white wheat, honey, molasses, and cocoa powder, this bread loaf is the perfect way to bring that restaurant feel back home. Grab your apron, it’s time for Honey Molasses Wheat bread.
Ingredients:
3 cups Hot Water
1/4 cup Butter, melted
3/4 cup Raw Honey
2 Tbsp Molasses
2 cups Honeyville Hard White Wheat, milled (about 4 cups flour)
2 Tbsp Honeyville Baker’s Cocoa Powder
1 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp SAF Yeast
4-5 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Bread Flour
1/2 cup Honeyville Yellow Corn Meal
Yields: 4 loaves
Directions:
First, mill your hard white wheat. You should have around 4 cups of milled flour.
Next, add the following ingredients to your BOSCH Universal Mixer in this order: water, butter, honey, molasses, bakers cocoa, salt, milled flour, and yeast. Turn mixer to #2 setting and, while ingredients are mixing, add alta artisan flour 1 cup at a time until dough begins to pull away from the sides. Knead in machine for 3-4 minutes.
After kneading, remove dough from mixer and place in a greased bowl. Cover, and let rise for 40-50 minutes.
After dough has risen to double in size, punch down and remove from bowl.
Divide dough into 4 pieces.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Shape each piece into a loaf, place on your USA Pan Cookie Sheet, lined with parchment paper, and let rise for 30-40 minutes. Once risen, slice the tops and sprinkle with corn meal.
Place in 400 degree oven, knock temperature down to 350 degrees, and bake for 35-40 minutes. Remove and allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
This bread is amazing out of the oven and with any meal, but is it’s best sliced with a cube of melted butter on top. The sweet taste of the honey, molasses, and cocoa, is perfect blended with the rich taste of milled wheat. Serve this up at any meal as an appetizer, and your family and friends will be begging for the recipe.
The best part about eating out is the bread, and thanks to this recipe, you can have all of that right in your own home!
